Update: Due to recent consistent rains, the White Mountain National Forest has lifted the burn ban. Hikers should continue to practice Leave No Trace campfire building and make sure all campfires are out and cold before leaving them unattended.

Almost the entire state is still in a severe drought. Hikers may still find many water sources have dried up.

The White Mountain National Forest has implemented a forest-wide burn ban, which includes the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) in New Hampshire. Do not have campfires and be extremely careful when using a camp stove or when smoking. Pack out all trash, especially cigarette butts.

This ban comes amid severe drought throughout most of the region, with central New Hampshire in an extreme drought. A.T. hikers in Vermont are encouraged to not have campfires right now as well.
